Script coverage is a book report for a script. Most coverage from a professional reader or story analyst provides feedback and notes in these four main categories:
Cover Page: This one-sheet provides general information about the project, including things like title, writer(s) name(s), format, genre, setting/period, logline, tagline, comps, page count, draft #, attachments, commercial potential, target audience, whether the project will be well-received by the target audience, and where it could thrive (film, TV, digital, etc.).
- Synopsis: A script synopsis, from 1/2 page to 3 pages.
- Comments: One to two pages of comments regarding strengths and weaknesses in categories like the story, structure, characters, dialogue, concept, formatting, and others.
- Character Breakdowns. This is less common but needs to be used in some agency story departments. Character breakdowns briefly describe each character (usually limited to the top 6 characters).
TREATMENT
A tool that presents a creative roadmap for your book’s adaptation and a thoroughly developed long-form pitch outlining how a screenwriter would adapt your book into a fully developed screenplay
- Your professional screenwriter will provide a thorough 8- to 10-page Treatment detailing how best to adapt your book’s manuscript into a film or television screenplay.
- Once your Treatment is ready, we will forward it to the next stage, the Screenplay.

- The turnaround time is two months or more, depending on the editing and revisions you need
Screenplay
- A screenwriter will complete a screenplay based on your approved Treatment.
- Screenplay elements will include character dialogue and detailed action of the story.
- The Screenplay will be written according to Hollywood’s standard format.
- Once your Screenplay is done, we will endorse it to Hollywood directors and producers.
- If the Hollywood directors and producers are interested in working with you, they will contact you directly and explain their plan of action to gauge your interest.
- The screenwriter waives all your screenplay rights, so you maintain full ownership of your story.
- You could endorse the Screenplay yourself if you know people in Hollywood or even produce the film using your professional script adaptation.
- Turnaround Time: 3-4 Months or more, depending on the number of book pages.
Completing your Logline
A logline summarizes a television program, film, or book that states the story’s central conflict, often providing a synopsis of the story’s plot and an emotional “hook” to stimulate interest. A one-sentence program summary in the TV Guide is a logline. It will briefly communicate the narrative or subject of the book and focus on the main character’s experience or path in the story.
The synopsis of your book focuses almost solely on the main character’s experience in the story. It provides a summarized view of the book. This can be the book’s back cover or a detailed manuscript treatment. Please just keep it condensed, focusing on the most critical moments.
The most important aspect of the screenplay adaptation is deciding what to keep. I’d like you to please note the following pointers that require noting after reading the book.
- The pivotal scenes
- The seven or so most essential characters
- The dialogue fuels the plot.
